County OED announces grant opportunities for financial literacy, student and youth travel

Two Fiscal Year 2027 grant-funding opportunities -- a new Financial Literacy Program focused on strengthening County grantees, small businesses and community members, as well as a second round of Student and Youth Travel funding for Hāna, Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi – are available, the County of Maui Office of Economic Development (OED) announced.

Applications opened Aug. 12, 2026, and must be submitted by Sept. 12, 2026, at 5 p.m. Eligibility requirements, program guidelines, and application materials for both opportunities are available through County OED grant application Submittable portal, https://mauioed.submittable.com/submit.

Financial Literacy Program - $150,000 in total available

The Financial Literacy Program funding opportunity is part of OED’s commitment to building a stronger kamaʻāina economy by investing in the long-term sustainability of the organizations and businesses that serve Maui County.

County OED is seeking qualified organizations to provide financial literacy education, technical assistance and capacity-building services to County grantees, small businesses and community members.

Services may include financial management and budgeting, bookkeeping and financial reporting, cash-flow management, grant financial management, business planning, access to capital and other tools that strengthen financial knowledge and organizational sustainability.

Student and Youth Travel - $148,000 total for Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi; $20,000 for Hāna

The second round of grant funding for Student and Youth Travel programs serving residents of Hāna, Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi is intended to expand access to educational, cultural, leadership, workforce, athletic and enrichment travel opportunities for youth and students from geographically isolated communities within Maui County. Travel funded through this program must directly serve students and youth from Hāna, Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi.

Eligible programs should provide meaningful travel experiences that offer participants opportunities not readily available within their home communities.

County OED encourages applications from organizations that demonstrate strong community impact, accessible participation and clear outcomes related to youth development, education, leadership or workforce readiness.
